I recevied an email about some workshops. In the description of one workshop was the following:
The workshop is an afternoon teas are included introduction to the advantages of web accessibility.
It doesn’t make sense! And doesn’t bode well for better web accessiblity if that is their standard!
Yes, we can figure out they probably mean “The workshop is an introduction to the advantages of web accessibility and afternoon teas are included” but they obviously didn’t proof read their own information so it doesn’t give a very professional image to their courses.
Of course, most of us would also assume there was only one afternoon tea being given, too!
Hi Tash, Yes, I agree with you. I was very embarassed the other day when sending out an email to a whole lot of people. When I went back and looked at the flyer I was sending out, the second page had somehow moved itself to the third page so that there was a big gap. That was certainly NOT professional. Even though the writing all made sense, I just wish that I could just take all those emails back and start again.

Personally I would be less concerned about a layout issue like an extra page that something that doesn’t make sense. However, I understand your desire to pull those emails back and start again!
Point out good about yourself and you will be referred to as conceited; say negative with regards to you and you will be believed. That makes sense to me and I see these people didn’t brag about the webianr so that’s good.

That was just one sentence from the email – I’m pretty sure they did promote the webinar as otherwise why would anyone join it?
I have to disagree with your statement – it isn’t conceit to say valid good things about yourself and we need to accept that sometimes we have to be nice about ourselves. It’s very sad if you can only believe the negative things people say – it shows a lack of trust and I think means you’d miss out on many great things.
And in business, you have to say some good things about yourself (ie your business) or no one will buy from you and the business collapses. If saying good about yourself didn’t work, marketers would have stopped that approach many, many years ago!
