{"id":765,"date":"2009-07-16T13:42:07","date_gmt":"2009-07-16T03:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/?p=765"},"modified":"2009-07-19T15:52:55","modified_gmt":"2009-07-19T05:52:55","slug":"blogging-for-promotions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2009\/07\/blogging-for-promotions\/","title":{"rendered":"Blogging for promotions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to some external limitations, I found some time to catch up on some blog reading this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Let me start by saying I do believe in blogs as a promotional tool in business &#8211; they are a great way to keep a site fresh, to build a relationship with clients and build your credibility. Yes, there are many social media choices now but\u00a0I don&#8217;t think they are replacing blogs. Personally, I learn more from reading a good blog post than a tweet for instance!<\/p>\n<p>A blog on your domain is going to give more SEO advantages than other social media options, too.<\/p>\n<p>Des Walsh blogged about <a title=\"Blogging survey\" href=\"http:\/\/deswalsh.com\/2009\/06\/11\/business-blogging-has-bright-future-survey\/\" target=\"_self\">some survey results<\/a> about blogs and business. He wrote &#8220;Companies with 10 or fewer employees are 30% more likely to use social media for public relations, branding and understanding customers. And they are twice as likely as large companies to use social media for lead generation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It certainly didn&#8217;t surprise me that small businesses use more social media than large ones &#8211; there is the obvious budget differences meaning small business owners need to find more affordable ways to interact with potential customers. I also think that many small businesses do well because they provide a personal service (no account managers or moving customers between departments, and a stronger sense of ownership) and social media depends on the personal side of a business.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a sole trader, the approval process is easy; if you work in a large company, especially if it is heavily regulated, the effort of getting blog posts, tweets and so on approved can be huge &#8211; and the time involved takes away form the immediate nature of social media anyway.<\/p>\n<p>From the blogs you read, would you agree that small businesses use more social media than their bigger counterparts?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to some external limitations, I found some time to catch up on some blog reading this morning.
