And I&#8217;m ignoring obvious spam for this post, too.<\/p>\n<h2>Rejecting with respect<\/h2>\n<p>The key to refusing a guest post nicely is to be polite and respectful.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the guest post is irrelevant to you or <a title=\"Recognising an ineffective guest blog post\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2012\/03\/recognising-ineffective-guest-blog-posts\/\">low quality<\/a>, someone\u00a0has taken the\u00a0time to write\u00a0a post and submit it to you. If they have really tried, they will have\u00a0an emotional attachment to the post and your response.<\/p>\n<h2>How to reject professionally<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>be polite\n<ul>\n<li>use <a title=\"Their names are precious\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2010\/10\/their-names-are-precious\/\">their name<\/a> with a greeting &#8211; \u00a0&#8220;Hi Sam&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>thank them for their submission<\/li>\n<li>don&#8217;t use derogative or insulting words<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>show respect\n<ul>\n<li>show you have a reason for the rejection &#8211; it doesn&#8217;t have to\u00a0be in detail but adding &#8216;we don&#8217;t accept guest posts&#8217;, &#8216;we only use posts\u00a0on this topic&#8217; or &#8216;your post doesn&#8217;t suit our style\/audience&#8217; makes the rejection less personal and lets them know how to avoid the same mistake<\/li>\n<li>don&#8217;t be insulting, rude or patronising<\/li>\n<li>write a proper response &#8211; a single &#8216;no thanks&#8217; looks lazy and disrespectful so use proper sentences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>be positive where possible\n<ul>\n<li>if you list faults with the submitted post (such as if you like their information but <a title=\"Editing guest blog posts\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2012\/04\/editing-guest-blog-posts\/\">want the writing improved<\/a> before you could use it), start and finish with\u00a0positives about the post<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The rejection note doesn&#8217;t have to be long as long as it is respectful and makes sense\u00a0&#8211; a greeting, one or two sentences and an ending is enough.<\/p>\n<h2>Example rejection notes for a guest post<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Hi Sam,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Thanks for submitting your &#8220;how to treat frog fungal infections&#8221; post. It was well written, however, my blog only accepts posts on business related topics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Kind regards,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Tash<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Hi Mary,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">I received your guest post yesterday, thanks.
