{"id":2897,"date":"2011-09-23T11:59:31","date_gmt":"2011-09-23T01:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/?p=2897"},"modified":"2025-08-25T20:32:30","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T10:32:30","slug":"reply-to-blog-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2011\/09\/reply-to-blog-comments\/","title":{"rendered":"Reply to blog comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well the title says it all really &#8211; it is important to reply to the comments left on your blog.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/overlapping_speech_bubbles.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3921\" title=\"overlapping_speech_bubbles\" src=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/overlapping_speech_bubbles-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"interacting speech makes a blog\" width=\"135\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a>I just read a blog post today that had a dozen or so comments from various people, including a question for clarification on an aspect of the post topic, without one reply from the blogger. The post was a few weeks old so she&#8217;s had time to reply &#8211; and the post was actually about how to <a title=\"Dealing with negative comments\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2007\/12\/dealing-with-negative-comments\/\">deal with negative blog comments<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>So what happens when you don&#8217;t reply to comments people take the time to leave for you?<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>you look arrogant and rude, especially if you&#8217;ve written any questions or invitations for responses<\/li>\n<li>you miss the opportunity to discuss the topic further and get others&#8217; input<\/li>\n<li>you miss the opportunity to show further knowledge, expertise and generosity by answering questions that come up in the comments<\/li>\n<li>you appear lazy and\/or disinterested in what your readers have to contribute<\/li>\n<li>you give other people the last word &#8211; and if their words are negative it could damage your brand<\/li>\n<li>you don&#8217;t give the impression that you want to build a community which is a large aspect of blogging in the first place<\/li>\n<li>you reduce the number of back links from your site (people won&#8217;t be inspired to comment and leave links if you aren&#8217;t answering them) which hinders your <a title=\"encouraging links to your blog\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2011\/05\/encouraging-links-to-your-blog\/\">SEO potential of a blog<\/a><\/li>\n<li>answering comments and engaging in a healthy discussion often gathers momentum and additional attention (e.g. people share the link via social media and bookmark sites) so a lack of comments may limit your exposure further<\/li>\n<li>you may just miss out on <a title=\"Growing your blog readership\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2011\/03\/growing-your-blog-readership\/\">building relationships with some great people<\/a> &#8211; some of whom may become clients, suppliers or friends<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>So I go back to the title of this post &#8211; reply to the comments people leave on your blog.
