And to be honest, contracts written in <a title=\"Legalese or clear English?\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2012\/02\/legalese-or-clear-english\/\">legalese<\/a> help that perception.<\/p>\n<p>However, a contract is simply an agreement between two (or more) parties.<\/p>\n<p>And a well written contract is simply communicating the details of an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>A contract will outline the details of the arrangement so some contracts are much longer than others and some need much more attention to finer details such as provided by a lawyer. But the bottom line is that it is a business document and needs to communicate a clear message.<\/p>\n<h3>Writing contracts<\/h3>\n<p>Writing a contract is like any other business writing in that<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>spelling is important<\/li>\n<li>grammar is important<\/li>\n<li>punctuation is important to ensure the correct meaning is understood<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"How to write well eBook\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/writing-tips-ebook\/\">good writing basics<\/a> are important &#8211; for example, a contract needs no more <a title=\"Capital letters\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2008\/04\/capital-letters-2\/\">capital letters<\/a> than any other document<\/li>\n<li>clarity and simplicity make it easier to understand and read<\/li>\n<li>knowing the purpose beforehand makes it easier to write<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Proofreading tips\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2010\/07\/proofreading-tips\/\">proof reading<\/a> &#8211; and a second opinion &#8211; is critical<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been asked recently about grammar and proper English for &#8216;important documents&#8217; such as a contract.
