Regular additions to your blog will help bring people back, too, and repeat visitors are more likely to link to you.<\/p>\n<p>Having said that, here are some more specific tips to increasing the number of links to your blog&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>link to other blogs &#8211; only some will reciprocate but it is polite and shows you are part of the blogging community. People seeing your comments may lead to visitors to your blog\u00a0 or someone else linking to you<\/li>\n<li>write something <a title=\"controversial comments\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2007\/12\/negative-comments-and-controversary\/\">controversial<\/a> or outrageous\u00a0(but stay within your brand and identity or it&#8217;s all for nothing!) and ideally back it up with your reasons<\/li>\n<li>summarise complex issues relating to your topic to help people understand what&#8217;s going on<\/li>\n<li>disagree (nicely) with someone or a &#8216;well known fact&#8217; in your industry<\/li>\n<li>participate in something unusual and interesting &#8211; it could be a treasure hunt across the web, running a competition, <a title=\"blog action day\" href=\"http:\/\/blogactionday.change.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog action day<\/a> or a local event<\/li>\n<li>join in or run a <a title=\"blog carnivals\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2007\/11\/blog-carnivals\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog carnival<\/a><\/li>\n<li>offer something valuable to readers &#8211; an eBook, a theme, plugin, a sample, etc &#8211; that they will be willing to tell others about<\/li>\n<li>write something very funny &#8211; people love sharing jokes!<\/li>\n<li>report on something new &#8211; if it is based on research or observations only you have access to, even better<\/li>\n<li>be the first to<a title=\"what is a  review\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2008\/03\/what-is-a-review\/\" target=\"_blank\"> review<\/a>\/announce\/do something<\/li>\n<li>stay topical &#8211; for example, post information relevant to an upcoming event, discuss a news item in relation to your industry\u00a0or give ideas for the current season<\/li>\n<li>get involved in <a title=\"guest blog post or promotional article?\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2011\/04\/guest-blog-or-promotional-article\/\" target=\"_blank\">guest blogging<\/a> &#8211; either posting elsewhere or inviting people to post in your blog<\/li>\n<li>come up with your own terminology for something &#8211; sometimes phrases just stick but people\u00a0like to read how it originated<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is also important to make your blog and posts appealing so remember the usual things like paragraphs, <a title=\"grammar and spelling details\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/category\/grammar-details-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">good spelling and grammar<\/a>, <a title=\"using photos in blog posts\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2009\/12\/photos-in-blog-posts\/\" target=\"_blank\">using pictures<\/a> as appropriate or for interest, <a title=\"web friendly content\" href=\"http:\/\/wordconstructions.com.au\/blog\/2010\/02\/making-content-web-friendly\/\" target=\"_blank\">use white space and avoid clutter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The last tip is to actually ask for other blogs to link to you &#8211; but managing that is probably worth a post on its own!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the assumption you want people to visit and read your blog, it is a good idea to get people to link to it.
