Thanks for your input Bill - it is an interesting poem covering the hope of moving forward and the fear of it backfiring.

I love the final lines -
Let’s make our Nation stronger, with an effort that’s combined.
Let us work together, on this great Southern Land,
Reach out to help each other, and extend a friendly hand.

Sorry State Of Affairs

Sorry has been said, the past can’t be changed,
The future lays ahead, will reconciliation be attained?
Rudd’s done the apology, well spoken and heartfelt,
The peoples should be pleased, with what they’ve been dealt.

But is there more to it, is this a lawyers game,
Being just the first step, to seek financial gain?
To milk again the Government, for all they can get,
To get out of working, to drink booze and bet?

The housing and education provided, not seen to good use,
Some even wrecking their own homes, misuse of funds and abuse.
Now together let us all rejoice, as one united brotherhood,
Determined to create a better place, where all are understood.

Australians have paid the bill, which has long been overdue,
Now let's not complain or curse, just appreciate and say "thankyou".
For the Billions which have been spent, to create a better life,
We all did what we thought was best, and that got us into strife.

This country was developed, from a desert barren land,
To compete with the world, not just beaches and sand.
Civilisation moves forward, technology is embraced,
To make our lives more comfortable, although a bit fast paced.

Let’s learn from cultures old and new, extracting all the best,
Respecting the differences in man, knowing we’re all blessed.
Living in peace and harmony, with all peoples on this land,
To build a brighter future, united we all stand.

Its time to move on forward, to leave the past behind,
Let’s make our Nation stronger, with an effort that’s combined.
Let us work together, on this great Southern Land,
Reach out to help each other, and extend a friendly hand.
